The youngest cat breeds

We humans, for the most part, are experimenters! We are always searching, we are driven by a thirst for knowledge, and, as a result, many technical inventions, works of art, new directions in creativity are born … And also new breeds of animals. We have already talked about new dog breeds more than once; today it’s the turn of cats.
An interesting fact is that although cats and dogs were domesticated by humans at about the same time, there are more than 400 dog breeds and only 200 in cats. Most likely, this happened because the dogs are guards, hunters, and shepherds, and nannies, and watchmen, and companions, and more requirements for them. The “field of activity” of cats, nevertheless, is more limited – catching rodents and decorating the premises and our life with themselves.
Nevertheless, more than 200 cat breeds are many, there is plenty to choose from! Moreover, work in this area continues to this day. And today we will talk about five young and unusual cat breeds.
1. Toiger.
American breed. The name can be translated like a toy tiger. The idea of breeding appeared in the 1980s. In 1993, the first representatives were already represented by the International Cat Association, and in 2007 toygers became a full-fledged champion breed.

These are short-haired cats with characteristic tiger color. They are distinguished by their outstanding intellect and calm, balanced character. Sociable, affectionate, easy to get along with other animals, get along well with children. Monogamous. It is believed that as a result of selection, toygers lost such an important instinct as orientation, so do not lose your pet, unlike other cats, he will not be able to find his way home.

The cost of a kitten of a show class is about 60 thousand rubles, for breeding – up to 200 thousand.
2. Snow shu.
The breed is also from America. Appearance perfectly characterizes the name – snow shu, snow shoe. The breed appeared a long time ago – already in 1994 it was accepted by all international associations. At the beginning, cats of this breed did not cause much interest, but after the appearance of the famous Internet Grumpy Cat, the breed gained popularity.

Cats in white shoes are aristocratic and graceful, but at the same time unpretentious and friendly, curious and active, have a quiet, gentle, melodious voice. They love to swim and are absolutely not vindictive. Interestingly, all kittens are born white, and the color inherent in the breed is acquired only by two years.

In Russia, kittens of this breed can hardly be found, and a kitten from foreign nurseries will cost 750 – 1800 dollars, depending on compliance with the pedigree characteristics.
3. Boredom.
The first results on the breeding of this breed were obtained in 1996 by crossing cats of the munchkin and la perm breeds. After that, another 10 years, work was carried out to identify and consolidate pedigree features. The result is small cats with long wavy hair. They are sometimes called dwarf la-perms.

Funny and lively, loving and affectionate. Mobile and agile, despite the short legs. Surprisingly silent and taciturn.

The breed, although recognized, is experimental, and therefore very rare, and therefore very expensive.
4. The elf.
One of the youngest breeds that has not yet received recognition of any felinological system. Obtained in 2006 by crossing the Canadian Sphinx with an American curl. Visiting card elves – swirling ears.

Affectionate, sociable cats do not tolerate loneliness. Smart, peaceful, they easily find a common language with all members of the family.
Since the breed is very young and not widespread, it has not yet been possible to identify any serious deficiencies in health and command, except for one – like most cats, elves do not like water.
5. Likoi.
If the previous cat breed causes associations with elves, then faces – with werewolves. The breed was registered in 2012. Like all previous ones, it was bred by American breeders.
Cats of this breed have a very rare coat of a characteristic color and an outstanding character.

You can read more about this unique breed in the article Meet the face – werewolf cat, there you will find a series of copyright photographs taken by one of the breeders standing at the heights of this breed.
